Tourette Syndrome
A retrospective analysis of a 35-year single-center experience with pediatric tics and Tourette syndrome was conducted. 482 charts from 1972 to 2007 were reviewed. Follow-up surveys were mailed to last known address and 83 patients responded (17%). Response rate was affected by long interval from last visit; contact information was often incorrect as it was the address of the patient as a child...
متن کاملControl networks in paediatric Tourette syndrome show immature and anomalous patterns of functional connectivity
Tourette syndrome (TS) is a developmental disorder characterized by unwanted, repetitive behaviours that manifest as stereotyped movements and vocalizations called 'tics'. Operating under the hypothesis that the brain's control systems may be impaired in TS, we measured resting-state functional connectivity MRI (rs-fcMRI) between 39 previously defined putative control regions in 33 adolescents ...
متن کاملFunctional Neuroimaging Investigations of Motor Networks in Tourette Syndrome
Motor and vocal tics are the core symptom of Tourette syndrome (TS). Tic generation seems to develop throughout the known motor pathways. This review focuses on functional neuroimaging in order to check this assumption. Also it elucidates the alterations and interactions of motor networks in TS depending on different contexts and circumstances like resting state, spontaneous tic movements, supp...
متن کاملTranscranial Magnetic Stimulation Studies of Sensorimotor Networks in Tourette Syndrome
Gilles de la Tourette syndrome (GTS) is a sensorimotor disorder where the sensitivity to external and internal stimuli might be increased and unwanted responses to such stimuli cannot be sufficiently suppressed.Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) studies indicate that, at rest, axonal excitability of cortico-spinal neurons and intra-cortical inter-neurons was consistently normal in GTS. How...
متن کاملOculomotor control in Gilles de la Tourette syndrome.
Saccadic eye movements, fixation and smooth pursuit were studied in 28 children with Gilles de la Tourette syndrome and found to be normal. A link has been postulated between Gilles de la Tourette syndrome and other movement disorders. The results obtained in the present series do not support this hypothesis.
